Beauty Trends // Beauty Trends: A Quick Guide to Mastering the Cat Eye

By

The Cat Eye is one technique that will never go out of style. The Cat Eye was first used in Ancient Egypt to help keep sand bugs from flying into people’s eyes. Thanks to Cleopatra – celebs like Angelina Jolie and Kim Kardashian are rocking these cat eyes like crazy. Some may feel a bit intimidated by this chic look – but fear not, here is a guide to help!

Liquid eye liner vs. Fine point brush vs. Pencil

Liquid – Liquid is the best for creating the winged shapes however, it is sometimes very tricky to use. Its best for varying the sizes of the wing you’re going for. (Once you get the hang of it, liquid will be your go-to eyeliner. I speak from experience!!)

Fine Point Brush – It is much more precise and it helps if you don’t have a steady of a hand. This is recommended for beginners.

Pencil – It is the easiest to smug in case you have a big space in between your eyelid and the liner, however, the least precise. (Personally my least favorite – I only use this for my lower eyelid)

Look at me meow — Perfecting the cat eye! (In three easy steps)

Step 1: Gently pull the eyelid in an upwards slant.

Step 2: Start at the crease – Drawing a thin line until it meets your finger.

Step 3: Close your eyes and gently blend the line onto the top of your eyelid (where the skin meets the eyelashes.)

If you want a thicker line – some recommend drawing the line a bit away from the eyelash and then blending it. I personally just draw the line several times one on top of the other to make it thicker. To finish the look, apply some mascara and some eyeliner to your lower eyelid and you’re done!

If you’re feeling bold – add some bold eyeliner colors and never be afraid to mix and match to attain that pop of color!
