Fad of the Week // Fad of the Week: The Sequined Dress

By

Sequins are the disco balls that illuminate our wardrobes. According to my experience, wearing a sequined dress triples your chances of skipping the line at a club and quadruples your chance becoming the “sparkle” of cutie’s eye later that night. And there’s a reason – instinctually, humans are drawn to shiny objects. We associate sparkle with currency, luxury and glamour. Because sequins make such a bold statement on their own, your dresses should provide maximal coverage, but show a hint of skin for those stuffy nightclub nights. Tap into your barbaric tendencies (while stimulating those of admirers) with my favorite sequined dresses.

#1. Your LBD is about to get a makeover and never turn back. Blend in with the navy blue night in this perfect navy number. The wrap around the waist hides that unwanted pooch and creates a gorgeous silhouette. Keep your makeup natural so the dress remains in focus.

#2. Ever unsure if it’s a dress or a shorts kind of night? Have no fear, the sequined romper is here. The one-piece bodysuit shape is super elongating, and the shorts at the bottom dress it down a notch. With its v-neck at the clavicles and v-dip in the back, this romper maintains a dainty femininity that we all know and love in a dress.

#3. Wearing your heart on your sleeve has never been so easy, because this one-sleeve sparkly get-up is totally worth falling in love with. If you’re worried about diving full-throttle into the sequin trend, the one arm of glitter will ease you right in. Plus, the one-shoulder look draws attention to your neck, which lends an ultra-seductive, come-hither vibe to your outfit.

The sequined dress is the iconic going-out piece. Let it command the spotlight they crave and deserve by:

  • Pairing it with monochromatic accessories. Think chunky silver hoops sans necklace, and of course, sky-high black pumps and a clutch.
  • Wear understated natural makeup, like a sheer gloss with a swipe of volumizing mascara.
  • Choose sequins that fall within the neutral, basic or pastel color palette so they don’t appear too “prom.”
  • Put hair up in a tight high ponytail or bun to show off your neck, for a clean, statuesque look.
