Trends // 6 Wild & Wacky Trends Spotted At New York Fashion Week

By

Everyone loves New York Fashion Week with all the excitement and anticipation of seeing the newest fashion trends. This year, there was no lack of great designers and collections, but some trends that popped up were a little less than wearable.

W&W #1. Oversized Hats

Headwear was a huge trend at New York Fashion Week, but some designers took is a little farther than others. One of these designers was Marc Jacobs. Not only were the hats at Marc Jacobs oversized, but they were also furry and came in a variety of colors!  Another designer that embraced the oversized hat was Yigal Azrouel.  As a more wearable option, his oversized furry hats were a bit smaller and were fashioned in a hunter style.

W&W #2. Extreme Colored Hair

Thakoon took colored hair to a new level by coloring all of the models’ hair shades of bright blue and pink. The colors of the models’ hair mirrored colors that were in the collection and resembled cotton candy. This dye job was a little different from your average hair color, and may not be for the every day woman.

W&W #3. Dragon Wear

Thom Browne took fashion week by storm with a very unexpected collection. Not only did he feature models in caskets, some models were fashioned like white dragons or dinosaur type creatures. These out-there looks even included padded spikes!

W&W #4. Cling Wrap Skirts

Marc Jacobs‘ collections never cease to amaze. Along with the giant furry hats, he had some models wearing skirts that resembled cling wrap. The skirts that were seen on the runway were paired with more tailored tops, but Marc Jacobs did not stop there. He also had the models’ wearing headbands that matched the skirts.

W&W #5. Crazy Cutouts

Jeremy Scott took cutouts to a whole new level. His designs featured some very interesting cutouts, in very nonconventional areas. The placements of some of these cutouts would be a little too provocative for the general public!

W&W #6. Super Brights

Jeremy Scott used not only bright colors, but also bright character based patterns, like Bart from The Simpsons!  Another designer that always embraces bright colors is Betsey Johnson, and her collection this year was no exception. Her collection featured very tailored pieces in bright colors, which made them very wearable.

New York Fashion Week always sets the tone for new looks and trends and everyone always looks forward to seeing what designers have come up with. But as you can see, sometimes designers come up with some things that are a bit wacky! These trends look great on the runway and generate a lot of buzz, but can be a little difficult to wear everyday. These designs are not for the faint of heart and would take a very daring woman to pull them off!
