Looks We Love // Move Over, Jenna? Here’s How J.Crew’s Gayle Spannaus Wants to Shake Up Your Wardrobe
Have any of the current subscribers to J.Crew’s email list realized that the famous J.Crew emails with fashion advice from Jenna Lyons have stopped coming? Apparently, “Jenna’s Picks” is “currently on hiatus.” J.Crew started to feel that with the extremely public role Jenna played, customers might need a break from the overexposed creative director. No worries! J.Crew is still recommending picks to all of their shoppers, but not exclusively by Jenna anymore. The geniuses at J.Crew have come up with something else. They’ve started looking for inspiration elsewhere within the company and they’ve come up with plenty of it thanks to the women’s fashion director and head stylist, Gayle Spannaus. So far, J.Crew has hit the jackpot with Gayle Spannaus. Here are some of the awesome ways Gayle wants to shake up your wardrobe:
Colored Denim
If your closet has been looking a little too lackluster lately, one way to up to your game is by replacing your everyday blue jeans with a pair of the colored variety. It doesn’t matter if they’re a pale pastel or a vibrant, electric color, they are a must-have for your wardrobe.
Add One Bold Extra
Gayle suggests that the “easiest way to add a jolt of color is with one amazing accessory,” giving an example of red patent leather heels. Now that you have the superstylist’s words of encouragement, never be afraid to pick an accessory that packs a punch, whether it’s a colorful purse, shoes, or a piece of statement jewelry.
Try Flashy Lip Color
If you hardly ever stray from the blacks and grays of your wardrobe, add a hot pink or red lip. Gayle implies that this little touch can be enough to brighten up your entire face, which is sometimes what you need when wearing darker clothes.
Sporty Style
Gayle also gives some tips as to how to “add some athletic elements to your look without dressing in your sweatpants.” This is much-needed advice since much of our time during the summer is spent outside. She suggests playing down a ladylike jacket and white jeans with a baseball cap and sneakers or a full skirt with a sweater and sneakers. Although this look may be out of your comfort zone, there’s no trendier option.
Spannaus hasn’t been giving recommendations long, but so far we cannot get enough of her stylish picks. Be on the look out for all of her wonderful recommendations, but until the next style tips come out, keep in mind her favorite quote is “Just add an orangey-red lip.”
