CocoKouture: Why did you start Studs & Sapphires?
Lillian Babaian: I’ve always loved everything about fashion and working in the fashion industry got me exposed to many blogs that would inspire me daily. Being inspired every day and needing a creative outlet, I decided to start a blog hoping to share my love for fashion with others and inspire daily. I am blessed and thankful for the loyal readers and new followers that visit my site every day. Although I am still learning about all of the aspects of blogging, it’s changed my life and can’t wait to see where this personal fashion journey takes me!

CK: Where do you go to school and where did you grow up? What are you majoring in?
LB: I went to The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising majoring in both Merchandise Product Development and also got my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Management. I grew up in Los Angeles, which has always spoiled me with breathtaking weather.

CK: Who is your favorite designer and why?
LB: This is always a difficult question for me. Chanel, Marchesa, and Balmain are the classic designers I love! Alexander Wang, Isabel Marant, and Marc Jacobs are also some of my favorites. Although designer pieces are always phenomenal, I love to create outfits together that offer both vintage pieces mixed with designer for a fun yet different outtake on style.

CK: What inspires you in life and fashion? 
LB: Since my style is so versatile, anything from culture, architecture to music and art can inspire me. Besides trends in the fashion industry, street style is also a great part of the inspiration behind my personal style.

I can’t narrow down my personal style in a few words because it changes everyday for me depending on my mood for the day. My looks range anywhere from downtown chic to bohemian-rock and also pretty and ultra-feminine. My daily style is mostly girly with a touch of edge.

 

CK: What are your favorite stores to shop at? What are your must-haves for fall?
LB: I love anything from retailers, such as Nordstrom, Zara, Topshop to the thriftier places, such as Wasteland in L.A. My fall must-haves have to be an oversized army jacket, an amazing pair of leather bottoms and ankle booties in every color and style.

 

CK: Any advise for aspiring fashion bloggers?
LB: I believe in hard work and also always being positive. Blogs have greatly impacted the fashion world and will continue to in the future. Although there are many more blogs today, a true authentic voice will always find its way to stand out. Stay true to your style and self, you’ll see endless opportunities come your way!
