Fashion // Runway Review: Thakoon Spring 2013 RTW

By

Designer Thakoon Panichgul showed his Spring/Summer 2013 collection at NYFW this past week. Celebrity front row guests included actress Christina Ricci. The collection featured whimsy bird and butterfly motifs created from delicate jacquards, rigid cottons, and satins.

The show opened with a birdcage printed dress, which was almost like a piece of art that symbolized entrapment and the need to break free.  Bird motifs were not the only things featured in this show. Thakoon also used collage techniques, wallpaper influenced prints, cutouts, and pullover layers.

Hair and makeup overall was simple, yet clearly influenced by the bird theme. Models were given strong cheeks, dark brows, and neutral colored lips. The model’s hair was simply slicked back and parted down the center with a low crimped ponytail.

Thakoon’s S/S collection can easily be the most magical and beautiful collection the designer has sent down the runway thus far. At least we think so anyways! We’ll definitely be seeing this collection worn by celebrity award show attendees soon!
