Fashion // Runway Review: Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2012 Couture
“Gaultier serves up yet another collection brimming with drama and unflappable luxury.” -FashionBombDaily. Jean Paul Gaultier has been known for his unique and unconventional designs. His intriguing costumes for Madonna and line of skirts for men have attracted the public eye and have helped him gain popularity.
The Fall 2012 Couture collection that Jean Paul Gaultier created included many aspects of his typical work. The pieces of this collection resembled costume wear, were meticulously tailored, and had an artistic feel. This collection refered to George Sand’s scandal-inducing cross-dressing in the 1850s and the art deco movement of the 1920s. With the film The Great Gatsby approaching theaters soon Jean Paul could not have had better timing with his designs. He took classic pieces and turned them into more modern versions that stylish women would love to wear.
Jean Paul Gaultier continues to use men as models for looks that aren’t necessarily intended for men. On the other hand many of the women’s looks had a masculine twist. For example Erin O’Connor opened the show wearing a tuxedo, top hat, and cane.
Overall the variety of looks led to a very entertaining show, check out the collection for yourself and tell us what you think!
