Jewelry is a form of complex elegance, which is also a good way to describe the fabulous accessory brand JEMILY. The Fall/Holiday 2012 collections from JEMILY are titled the Idrissa, Geometria, Fleur De List and Narcissus collections, each beautifully crafted.

Catherine Marion, the head designer for the brand, was a successful corporate finance attorney before deciding she wanted to pursue her passion in jewelry. She decided to attend school at FIT to pursue her dream. The jewelry she creates is contemporary and visually striking. “I believe it combines timeless elegance with modern style,” Marion says on the JEMILY site.

Many things from nature to iconic forms of beautiful blossoms to classic architectural elements inspire and catch her eye. The target customer of JEMILY can be a woman in her late 20s or a woman in her 50s. A JEMILY woman is financially independent with sophisticated taste. She also is the woman with the most confidence. She isn’t much into tradition or convention, and her jewelry reflects that. JEMILY’s abstraction of nature, architecture and industrial forms made of yellow gold, beautiful diamonds and colored gems attract fabulous women.

For aspiring designers, Marion says research is key. Absorbing what is going on in the fashion world, going to a good library and studying fashion from other eras and countries is instrumental in creating a collection.

Marion also suggests that aspiring designers “sit and watch your potential clients walk by – how would you improve on what they are wearing? Understand your potential clients’ body type and how they express their lifestyle, that will guide you in creating the most successful looks.” Marion advises developing your own design aesthetic.
