For shoe and accessory designer Abel Munoz, there was no questioning a career in fashion was what he wanted with his life. “I’ve been interested in accessories design and all facets of design all of my life. Since I remember, footwear design has always been in my mind. I guess I always wanted to design shoes,” confesses the now full-fledged shoe designer whose precious soles are available in select boutiques in SoHo New York, Montreal, Toronto, Denver Colorado, California as well as online internationally at every girl’s favorite online haute-spot: THE OUTNET. It’s not hard to see why Munoz’s shoes are so coveted across North America, they’re sophisticated — plain and simple.
The high-fashion shoe designer definitely has a flair for chic and stylish attire and notes “Valentino, Georgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent and Gian Franco Ferre” as his favorite designers. Munoz’s sky-high heels come in a range colors and moods and with each new collection comes more beautiful shoes. In his FW12 collection Munoz has designed a group of stilettos and booties that are edgy and high-fashion, as well as bold and brilliant. These are the kind of killer shoes you could wear to your enviable internship, on a date or a night out with your girlfriends!
Abel designs shoes for the kind of woman who is different, strong and independent. “She is not afraid of investing money in something new, unusual and fashion-forward.” That kind of women sounds like risk-taking music icons Lady Gaga and Rihanna, who also just so happen to be the celebrity ladies Abel Munoz sees strutting their stuff in his high heels. However, Abel wants more than just a celebrity spotting (or two) with his shoes. Abel has big goals and he will stop at nothing to make them come true: “I would love to expand. In fact in the past, I have designed men’s shoes and bags and women’s bags as well. I am currently experimenting with trench coats. Due to the current state of the economy I am being cautious.” When Abel makes a bold move and takes his designs to even greater heights, CocoKouture will definitely be watching.

CocoKouture: What inspires you when you are designing?
Abel Munoz: I am not sure if I look for inspiration but I find a lot of it in the world that I live in. Travel, the cities, the colors, the difference between cultures in fashion.
CK: What would you consider the overall mood/vibe of your shoes & accessories?
AB: My line is impeccable in both quality, design and classic. My Milan training helped me to combine artisanal handmade techniques with a contemporary and graphic edge.
CK: What has been your favorite collection that you have designed so far?
AB:This is a difficult question to answer since I love each piece and collection. I’ll say one of the styles that stands out is Petronia. It’s aesthetics somehow resemble the time and place of where and when the collection is based.
CK: What has been your proudest moment as a designer so far?
AB: The fact that I am going on to my 7th season at george c. and that I launched my line this spring\summer in NY at Ruia. I’m also launching the line at Harvey Nichols in Kuwait come fall 2012.
CK: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
AB: The moment when a really good idea is triggered in my brain and I start the developing process until it is finished.
CK: What is your advice for aspiring fashion designers?
AB: It is a life time commitment, be ready for it when getting in to it and, sadly, not everybody makes it.
CK: What are your future goals as a designer?
AB: My main goal is to continue to expand the brand into the international markets.
