Extras // Hair & Makeup Tricks for Valentine’s Day

By

Valentine’s Day is all about love, relationships, chocolate, and of course, classic shades of rich pinks and reds. Whether you’ve found that special someone to spend this love day with or are spending some time focusing on yourself and your friends- taking some time to try something new with your hair and makeup can help make the day feel more special. Here are some tips for an amped-up Valentine’s Day look that will be sure to turn heads in class and on the street!

Loose and Wavy

Gone are the days when your hair needs to be stick straight to be sexy. With a little product, allowing your hair to dry naturally can be the most flattering for your face. After you shower, towel-dry and comb your hair. Once you’ve gotten rid of excess moisture, use a light product to control frizz and enhance the natural wave or curl of your hair. One of my favorites is Hair Milk Lite The Curl Booster, which can be found at Sephora for $9.00. To add a little Valentine’s Day flair, try adding a rose accessory, like this headband from Topshop.

Pretty in Pink

Different shades of pink can have different effects. For a casual dinner or outing with friends, stay in the Valentine’s Day spirit with a light pink lipstick or gloss, for a little extra shine. Be sure to test the lipstick before you buy it; if the lipstick is too light for your skin tone it can wash you out. For a fancier spin on a night out, try a deeper or brighter shade of pink. A hot pink lipstick can be fun and playful while still adding a level of sophistication. For a more demure look, go for a deeper shade closer to the red family.

For eye shadow, veer away from rosy tones and focus on gold and brown. A light dusting of gold eye shadow is sophisticated and pretty, while going darker with some brown can create a sexier look for the evening.

One of the best ways to show your Valentine’s Day spirit is with your nails! Hot pink nail polish is always fun, and no matter what your age it’s a trend that everyone is free to embrace on the day of love. You can take the look one step further and, using a small brush, paint hearts on your nails in a different shade of pink.

Valentine’s Day is all about being playful. Embrace the style that makes you feel the best. After all, there’s no better relationship to celebrate than the one you have with yourself!
