After reading Jena’s post on her Fourth of July, I decided to follow in her footsteps, albeit four days late. Jena gave some great suggestions about looking patriotic without overdoing it, so you should definitely check them out. Unlike Jena, though, I have never been brave enough to dress up on Independence Day (aside from wearing a flag T-shirt in elementary school).

This year, however, I decided to wear the red, white, and blue. I found a great blue-and-white striped pair of shorts at Urban Outfitters, and borrowed my sister’s red Forever 21 blazer. Paired with a plain tee and gladiator sandals, I was festive without being too Uncle Sam-like. I sent my picture to Faran Krentcil, Nylon Magazine’s Digital Director, and made their street style list for the second time! I wasn’t in the top eight, although one of the girls who was wore the same shorts as me but in red! Although my Fourth of July was spent at the zoo and outlet shopping, I was glad to support our country even if only in appearance.

Do you all like to look patriotic, or is it just too much effort for a day off?
