Extras // Beauty Spotlight: Benefit Cosmetics

By

Being a complete beauty junkie, I moved into my dorm room with three train cases of makeup. This wasn’t including my skincare products or all the makeup I left behind at home. I love trying new products and I rarely go through something entirely so it all collects together. 85% of the time when I walk into Sephora, it’s to try something new rather than replace a product. Initially, the Benefit brand caught my eye at Macy’s with their retro, flirty packaging and since then, I’ve been hooked.

The first product I bought from Benefit was Moon Beam and fell in love. At $26 it is slightly pricey but a little bit of this product goes a long way. I like to mix about tree drops in with my tinted moisturizer (I absolutely hate foundation) on the back of my hand. I get coverage AND dewy skin so it’s a win-win. Moon Beam’s sister product is High Beam. I had originally gone to purchase High Beam, but the sales girl suggested that Moon Beam was better for my medium skin tone. Recently I decided to break down and purchase it and have fallen totally in love with what has rightfully been dubbed “supermodel in a bottle.” All you need is three dots on top of your cheek bones, three tiny dots down the middle of your nose, three on your forehead, one right above your lip and your face has been perfectly highlighted. These two products are thick in consistency, but fear not, they will not clog your pores! I usually don’t repurchase cosmetic products but I will definitely buy these again (if I ever run out)!

After being a devoted follower of Too Faced Shadow Insurance, I never thought I’d switch to another product. I like to do some crazy eye shadow sometimes (I can pull it off with my skin tone) so I absolutely have to wear primer because darker colors show the creases more. I received Benefit’s Stay Don’t Stray as a sample but never used it because I was such a fan of Shadow Insurance. I finally pulled it out after running out of Shadow Insurance without a backup and I regret not giving it a chance earlier. In terms of eye shadow primer, Stay Don’t Stray is intense! It not only keeps your shadow in place, it is color-correcting as well. Because of it’s color correcting qualities, I use this underneath my eyes as well and sometimes get away with not wearing concealer. I’ll dab a little High Beam under my eyes when I skimp on the concealer and I look fantastically awake.
For cheek color I love Benetint and Posietint. I especially love these two because they double up as lip stains as well. Posietint is REALLY pink and Benetint is a pretty, deep rose color so be careful and apply sparingly. You can always build up the color gradually, just make sure to blend really well. The only thing I would change about these two is their consistency. They’re pretty runny, so as soon as you apply them, start blending right away! I primarily use them as lip tints because they offer more color whereas most lip tints tend to be more sheer. PS: Benefit has a new tint called Cha-Cha tint that I can’t wait to try!

Benefit Cosmetics offers a wide variety of products that are all pretty fabulous and unique. Check out their Fake-It collection to hide all your little imperfections, making you look flawless. Their boxed powders offer some of the most natural looking blushes/bronzers I’ve tried. Hoola is a fantastic matte bronzer that I use for all-over color, and if you have lighter skin, it can be used to contour your face. Also for the fair skinned girls, Eye Bright is a must have. Dab a little to the inner corners of your eyes and it makes you look instantly awake. If you’re a little hesitant to try products because of the price, Benefit offers beauty minis (usually from $10 to $15) at Sephora all the time so you can try a few products before you decide to splurge on the full sizes.

I absolutely love all the products I’ve tried thus far and can’t wait to continue to try new products from the brand. Be sure to leave us a comment below with your favorite product or what you’re excited about trying next!
